Responsible Gaming
Practical tools, warning signs and free UK support organisations, including GamStop, BeGambleAware and Gamblers Anonymous.
Gambling is entertainment, not income
The mathematics of every casino product favour the operator over time. That is not a flaw or a scandal, it is how the product is built, and any brand that suggests otherwise is misleading you. Treat what you stake as the cost of an evening out, already spent the moment you deposit it.
If you are staking money you need for something else, or gambling to recover a loss, the activity has stopped being entertainment. That is the point to step back, and there is no shame in it.
Under-18s must not gamble. It is a criminal offence in Great Britain.
Warning signs worth taking seriously
- Chasing losses — increasing stakes to win back what has gone
- Gambling with money set aside for rent, bills, food or debt repayment
- Hiding the extent of your gambling from family, a partner or friends
- Borrowing, selling possessions or using credit to fund a deposit
- Restlessness or irritability when you try to cut down or stop
- Gambling to escape stress, low mood, boredom or loneliness
- Missing work, study or social commitments because of a session
Tools you can switch on today
- Deposit limits — cap what you can pay in daily, weekly or monthly. Every British-licensed brand must offer this. Reductions take effect immediately.
- Loss limits — cap net losses over a period, independently of what you deposit.
- Session reminders — an on-screen prompt showing elapsed time and net position.
- Time-out — a short cooling-off period from 24 hours up to six weeks.
- Self-exclusion — a longer block, typically six months to five years, that cannot be reversed early on request.
- Bank card gambling block — most UK banks now offer a free switch in their app that blocks gambling transactions outright, often with a delay before it can be lifted.
GamStop UK
GamStop is the free national self-exclusion scheme for Great Britain. One registration blocks you from every operator licensed to serve British customers, including both brands reviewed on this website, for six months, one year or five years.
It takes a few minutes at gamstop.co.uk and is the single most effective step available if you want to stop. It cannot be undone early, which is exactly the point.
BeGambleAware
BeGambleAware provides free, confidential information, advice and treatment referrals across Great Britain. The National Gambling Helpline is open around the clock on 0808 8020 133, and there is a live web chat at begambleaware.org.
You do not need to be in crisis to call. Support is available for people worried about their own gambling and for family members and friends affected by someone else's.
Gamblers Anonymous
Gamblers Anonymous runs free peer-support meetings across the UK, in person and online, for anyone who wants to stop gambling. There are no fees and no membership requirements beyond that desire. Meeting listings are at gamblersanonymous.org.uk.
GamAnon runs parallel meetings for family and friends.
Protecting people under 18
If children use your device, consider filtering software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio, keep payment methods out of shared browsers, and never let a minor watch or take part in a session. British-licensed operators are legally required to verify age before allowing a deposit, but the first line of defence is at home.
A short checklist before you deposit
- Set a deposit limit before your first stake, not after
- Decide the amount you are willing to lose and stop there
- Never gamble under the influence, tired, or to lift a bad mood
- Take a break every hour, and keep the session clock visible
- Never borrow to fund a deposit
- If it stops being fun, use the time-out button rather than one more spin
